Microsoft is to expand its limited three-year warranty to include consoles afflicted by the ‘E74’ error.
The limited three-year warranty had originally been set up to deal with the notorious ‘Red Ring of Death’ issue in 2007, and the company has now announced that this has been extended to cover machines struck down by the ‘E74’ problem as well.
Although not as well publicised as the RROD, the E74 issue – which can be identified by three green lights and one red one being displaying whenever the 360 is fired up – is equally crippling, usually resulting in the affected console being sent back to Microsoft for repair.
While it’s obviously not at good as having a fully working, reliable console, this extension should offer some comfort to gamers affected by it.
And on the plus side, Microsoft has become very good at getting machines patched up again quickly. Although given the amount of practice it’s had, perhaps that’s not surprising…
